Outdoor spaces with a direct connection to the water

The 2005 Grand Banks 72 Aleutian RP combines an oversized aft cockpit with an aft deck arranged for open-air dining and entertaining. The cockpit includes a barbecue with a countertop and sink, while teak decking runs through the cockpit, aft deck and the main deck aft of the Portuguese bridge.

The aft deck has built-in seating with stowage below, a high-gloss teak table with decorative inlays and two folding leaves, and four teak chairs. Port and starboard wing doors frame the passage to the aft deck, and a stainless-steel stair with teak treads rises to the flybridge.

Salon and country-style galley

An electrically operated Freeman door connects the aft deck to the main salon. The salon receives light through windows running the length of the space, while forward-facing windows extend the outlook from the country-style galley.

The U-shaped galley is bordered by windows on three sides and includes four Isotherm refrigerator/freezer drawers, a Miele four-burner electric cooktop, a Miele dishwasher and an electrically raised storage cabinet. A long starboard counter and bar incorporates refrigeration, a wine cooler and bottle storage.

Accommodation arranged around a full-beam master

The full-beam amidships master stateroom has a centerline king berth, a vanity and an en-suite head. The VIP stateroom has a queen island berth and an en-suite head.

The custom port stateroom converts between a double-berth cabin and an office. A fourth cabin forward of the engine room serves as a crew cabin or additional berth and includes a freshwater toilet.

Pilothouse and flybridge circulation

The lower helm sits forward of the galley beside a port-side dinette with a teak table and under-seat storage. A starboard side-deck door gives the pilothouse direct access to the side decks and bow.

Garmin navigation electronics, an autopilot and adjustable, swiveling Stidd helm chairs equip the helm areas. Interior and exterior stairways lead to the flybridge, where port and starboard sofas, teak-topped tables, two captain’s chairs, storage and a davit crane create a separate upper-deck space.

Propulsion, control and onboard systems

The twin Caterpillar C-30 direct-drive installation is rated at 3,100 hp, with an 18-knot cruising speed and a 24-knot maximum speed. Naiad 254 electronic fin stabilizers, a bow thruster and a hydraulic stern thruster support handling underway and in close quarters.

The Yacht Controller system places remote engine and thruster controls on a portable lead. A Village Marine watermaker, fuel-transfer system, custom high-speed oil-change pump and second 20 kW Northern Lights generator extend the yacht’s onboard systems.
