Aluminum construction and displacement form

Quarter-inch aluminum plating forms the hull of the 2002 Darling Yachts Custom Aluminum, a 71.5-foot pilothouse yacht with a displacement hull, a 19-foot beam and a maximum draft of 5 feet. Imron paint finishes the faired aluminum exterior, while direct-drive propulsion and a 240V electrical circuit serve the onboard mechanical and electrical installation.

Foam insulation and soundproofing run throughout the yacht, complementing a layout built around enclosed interior spaces, a full-beam pilothouse and dedicated stowage.

Cherry joinery and private accommodation

Cherry cabinetry, tongue-and-groove ceilings, arched doors and solid-brass Baldwin hardware establish the interior finish. Birdseye maple stairs connect the levels, while black-ebony-inlaid tables of reclaimed oak accompany custom leather furnishings in the main salon and dining area.

The primary stateroom includes a king-size berth, seven-foot headroom and cedar-lined storage. Guest accommodation is arranged with an L-shaped twin-berth layout, and the yacht has two cabins.

A full laundry, pantry and attic-style storage add practical capacity to the interior, while two full-size Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer units support onboard provisioning.

Full-beam pilothouse and navigation suite

The pilothouse spans the beam and places two green-leather Stidd helm chairs behind an Edson teak wheel. A raised settee and workstation share the space with the navigation and communications installation.

Furuno radar, FLIR thermal imaging, Garmin GPS, SSB radio and Nobeltec navigation software equip the helm. Dual Glendinning controls, hydraulic bow and stern thrusters, and an electric windlass form part of the yacht’s maneuvering arrangement.

Diesel machinery and tender handling

Two Cummins Diamond Series diesel engines provide 900 hp in total, with a cruising speed of 10 knots recorded for the yacht. Two Westerbeke 32 kW generators supply auxiliary power.

The engine room includes redundant filtration, Algae-X fuel conditioning and a professional-grade oil-exchange system. Fuel capacity is 1,470 gallons, water capacity is 500 gallons and holding-tank capacity is 130 gallons.

A 16-foot Highfield aluminum RIB with a 90 hp Yamaha is carried with a custom transom-mounted davit. Webasto and Flagship Marine heating systems, Bose surround sound, satellite television and an LG OLED display complete the onboard equipment. The yacht is located in Vancouver, British Columbia.
